Department alumni Stuart L. Cooper *67, University Scholar Professor and Department Chair of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Ohio State University, and Cato T. Laurencin ’80, Dean of the School of Medicine and Vice President for Health Affairs at the University of Connecticut, have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), as announced in a press release issued today. Election to the National Academy of Engineering (established 1964) is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature,” and to the “pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.”
