Borrowing from inkjet printers, Princeton Engineering researchers have rolled out a pixel-by-pixel technique to program and print composite elastic materials. It could be used for applications in soft robotics to create octopus-inspired camouflage or in medical devices to sense fine detail in vulnerable spaces.
Princeton CBE has promoted Mark Brynildsen to professor of chemical and biological engineering and José Avalos to associate professor of chemical and biological engineering and the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment, effective July 1.

The School of Engineering and Applied Science has honored molecular modeling expert Michael Webb for early-career excellence in research and teaching. He is one of six assistant professors to receive a junior faculty award this year. Each recipient will receive $50,000 to support their research.
