Professor James Wei has transferred to emeritus status, effective February 1, 2010. A faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering since 1991, Wei led the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) as Dean from 1991 – 2002. Amongst the highlights of Wei’s remarkable tenure as Dean were the $100 million gift to the SEAS from Sir Gordon Y. S. Wu, and the construction of the Friend Center for Engineering Education. Since stepping down as Dean, Wei has taught freshman seminars and new chemical engineering courses, including one on product engineering which led to Wei’s book, “Product Engineering: Molecular Structure and Properties”, published by Oxford University Press in 2007.
