Six graduate alums of Princeton CBE have been elected into the 2023 class of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), according to a Feb. 7 announcement.

Researchers at Princeton University have developed the next generation of their solar absorber gel technology, a device that could be key to unlocking clean water access for people across the globe. The sponge-like gel is low-cost, easy-to-use, and requires only sunlight to filter pollutants such as heavy metals, oils, microplastics, and some bacteria from water, making it an alternative for off-grid water purification.

Jackie Ri-Yu Ying, a pioneer in the use of nanotechnology for human health, has won the 2023 King Faisal Prize in Science for “the synthesis of various advanced nanomaterials and systems, and their applications in catalysis, energy conversion and biomedicine.” Ying is a 1991 graduate alumna in chemical engineering and a member of Princeton’s Board of Trustees.
